Story

This is the title track of the CD.  It was written following a residency at the Banff Centre for the Arts in the mid-nineties and is really the composition that started the writing bug for Janice in earnest.

Story

This bebop-flavoured composition was conceived in a dream, except for the middle section, which arrived during an inline skating session! The piece is a "contrafact" based on I Got Rhythm chords - typical of the Bebop era!

Story

This up-tempo samba is named in honour of a sax playing friend who lives in Mexico and is a well-respected performer and educator in Morelia. We became friends after meeting at an International Saxophone Master Class with David Leibman in Pennsylvania in the late nineties, and were delighted to recently reconnect through Facebook.

This moody version of the well-known classic Georgia on My Mind cast an absolutely magical spell over the studio as the last note faded away.

Story

Hugh Fraser suggested that we just play "something" in the few minutes of studio time remaining before we were to go for lunch.  What a great suggestion - this is the piece that we did - in one take no less!

This upbeat piece was inspired by my funny and wonderful nephew Duncan.

Story

This piece was written while I was studying composition with Don Thompson in Toronto (thanks to a Manitoba arts Council grant!). During that time, Anne Ross passed away.  She left a significant legacy for the less fortunate in the health care field, having been involved in the formation of Klinic. So I wanted to dedicate this piece to her memory.

Story

This song is an homage to a great girlfriend who was really having trouble finding a great guy. After dating a number of men, she was despairing of ever finding "the one", but I remember her telling me what her Mom had said: "You have to kiss a few frogs before you find your prince", or something along those lines. At any rate, she has since found her prince...albeit after quite a number of frog-kissing experiences!
